Installing KBC ProSteam
Applies to ProSteam 6 and later versions.
For earlier versions of ProSteam, please go to:
Pre-requisites
- Full administration rights to install software.
- Excel 2003 or later, but 32-bit versions only!
- Information about how the software license is supplied (network, or local, with our without a hardware key);
- The software CD or downloaded package. For download details, please contact the KBC software helpdesk.
Other things to consider
- Unzipping : unzip downloads completely to a hard drive or network folder. Do not try to run setups from within a zipped folder.
- Some warning messages may appear, the first time you start ProSteam.
Installation
See Installing KBC Energy Software, to determine which type of security you have.
Start the installation using the launch.exe program on the software distribution.
For Windows 7, and higher, please right-click launch.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
You should then see the following screen:

First, install the licensing components as required:
- Sentinel Network Server Setup installs the Sentinel RMS License Manager software onto a server. This is needed if you have a network license. For more details, see: Installing License Servers.
- Sentinel Client / Standalone Setup installs the security key drivers, license testing and other management utilities on a client PC. Use this to:
- Set up stand-alone security with or without a local hardware key ("dongle").
- Install short-term training license files, which can be used on any PC.
- Set up a client machine, ready for connection to a network license server. (You also need to define the connection, as described in Server Detection)
- Install HASP Security (old) installs the HASP security key drivers on a client PC. Use this to:
- Set up HASP stand-alone security with a local HASP hardware key ("dongle").
- Set up a HASP client machine, ready for connection to a HASP network license server.
Then install the software:
- Install ProSteam 6 starts the main software installation.
The other links provide easy access to documentation and technical support.
Non-English Windows
Non-English versions of Windows may use a different name for the “C:\Program Files” directory.
The setup programs should cope with this automatically, but if you suspect problems please contact the KBC software helpdesk.
Warnings on First use
You may get some messages, the first time ProSteam is used:
- If you get the message shown in Start-up Message 1, select the option “I have a security key or software license” and then press OK.
- If you get the message shown in Start-up Message 2, first determine if you use HASP or Sentinel security and then proceed as follows:
- If you have Sentinel licensing, just select Cancel, as this message does not apply to you.
- If you have HASP licensing, follow the instructions in the message box.
The next time ProSteam is used, neither of these messages should appear. Close and re-open ProSteam to check.
Testing an installation
See here for screen shots of how to test if ProSteam is installed and working properly in Excel 2007 and above.
For Excel 2003 the procedure is similar, but the ProSteam menu appears directly within the Excel menu bar.
