Installing KBC Energy Software

Getting Started

Your access to KBC software is controlled by your license agreement with KBC. The access rights are embodied in a license file (and/or hardware key) that defines valid features, dates and numbers of users.

We provide two types of license:

  • Stand-alone or single-user licenses that are installed directly on a client PC. Stand-alone licenses may be short-term (for trial or training purposes), or longer term. It will be locked to a hardware key ("dongle") or a physical characteristic of your PC.
  • Network licenses that allow one or more users to share licenses concurrently. Network licenses are managed by a special License Server application that you install on a network server. Network licenses are always locked either to a physical security key supplied by KBC, or to the physical characteristics of the server itself.

You will need to know how you are licensed, before you start.

HASP or Sentinel?

KBC Energy and Water software use two different licensing products.
Your first step is to determine which applies to you:

  • If you have had the software since before January 2009, you will have a HASP security key.
  • If you have a purple USB key inscribed with HASP in faint writing, then you have a HASP security key.
  • If you have a black security key that contains the letters Safenet Sentinel, then you have a Sentinel security key.
  • If you have a network license and are unsure which license system is used, please forward this email to your IT contact, or ask software@kbcat.com.

For a HASP license, please go to KBC Energy Software with HASP Licensing.
For a Sentinel license, please go to KBC Energy Software with Sentinel Licensing.
