Excel Troubleshooting
SIM Suite provides Excel related functionality via a number of addins. Clients sometimes experience issues around the addins. This page provides some trouble shooting tips.
Did you run the Registration Tool?
The latest version of the SIM Suite registration tool should be used to re register the version of SIM Suite that you want to use, even if you think it is not necessary. This action can also fix a number of smaller issues, and is safe to do at any time. Starting with version 6.2, there is also a Repair icon (small, on the bottom right) which will fix trusted locations, disabled addins and Excel active X issues. If the issues are still not resolved and other suggestions on this page do not help, the tool also has an option to gather detailed diagnostics around Excel and addins. This can be sent to KBC for assistance. To generate diagnostics, click the Diagnostics icon, and press Control + V in an email.
Is your Excel version supported?
Please check on the System Requirements page near the bottom right to make sure that you are using a supported Excel version. Note that foreign language Excel versions or English Excel versions running on a foreign language operating system are supported.
Are you running Excel and Petro-SIM with the same rights?
You need to run Excel and Petro-SIM with the same rights. If you run only one of them as an administrator (you can tell from the title bar), then for security reasons Windows prevents any inter process communication.
Do you have multiple instances of Excel or Petro-SIM running?
If you do, they may have trouble communicating. Use the task manager to terminate any additional instances, or restart your machine. It may happen that an instance of one of the applications failed to exit, and this can cause problems.
Is your version of Petro-SIM the registered one?
Run the registration tool with administrative rights and register your SIM Suite version. You can have multiple versions installed a the same time and even run multiple versions at the same time, but the one communicating with Excel should be registered as the current active default version.
Is your Excel fully installed?
Can you access the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) feature in Excel? Start Excel, and create a blank new workbook. Press Alt-F11. If the Visual Basic for Applications view does not open, you may need to install it.
Did you only install Excel the first time after already having SIM Suite installed?
If so, you need to repair or reinstall SIM Suite. This will make Excel items are properly installed.
Is your SIM Suite location a trusted location in Excel?
Start Excel and click File, Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings, Trusted Locations. Make sure the location of SIM Suite is a trusted location. You need something like C:\Program Files (x86)\KBC or C:\Program Files\KBC in the list, with all sub directories also trusted. Under Macro Settings, also try checking "Trust access to the VBA project object model". Under "ActiveX Settings", make sure all controls are not disabled.
Do you have disabled KBC addins?
Start Excel and click File, Options, Add-Ins. Nex to Manage, select COM Add-ins and click Go... Make sure any KBC or Petro-SIM related add ins are checked. You may need to restart Excel and check these settings again, or set them after starting Excel with Admin rights. Use the SIM Suite registration tool to make sure the right add ins are registered.
