Petro-SIM 7.5 Changes to Refinery Reactors

Petro-SIM 7.5 introduces key improvements and added capabilities to the Reactor Suite to keep up with the demands in the industry, including technical improvements to our hydroprocessing reactors and furnace models

Key Highlights

  • HDO Effluent characterization of unconverted bio components in Renewables DHTR-SIM
  • HXX-SIM Catalyst Database Usability improvements
  • Improvements in slurry feed handling within furnace models
  • Improved coke tuning in furnace models

HXX-SIM

DHTR-SIM (Renewables)

  • Unconverted bio components being able to export to effluent streams as pure components instead of ending up in hypos
    • Beneficial mostly if predicting yields at low bio conversion, esp. in configrations with external liquid recycle
    • Feed characterization of bio components remains the same

HXX-SIM CDB Usability Enhancements

  • Catalyst library page in Petro-SIM GUI supports option to switch between showing only active catalysts and showing all catalysts loaded to CDB
  • Bed Kinetics Page in Petro-SIM GUI can show true final values used in the model for each CDB variable, by bed.

Furnace Models

Eliminate model errors/failures caused by non-monotonic product SG curve and improve coke tuning

  • Allowing furnaces to handle blends containing slurry feeds more robustly - checks have been implemented on incoming feed to determine if specific gravity curve is non-monotonous so that the resulting product is also non-monotonous without failing and issuing an erro message to alert the user
  • A new Specific Gravity calibration mechanism has been introduced when used would trigger a recalibration. The mechanism was improved to avoid a low calculated SG residue factor.
  • The no of tuning factor required to tune coke have been reduced by eliminating the 5 exsiting and introducing 2 new factors.
  • No major changes in results are expected but when migrating it is advised to look for these effects.
  • Tube inlet and outlets are now properly labeled on all pages where tube numbers are listed
