Welcome to Petro-SIM 6.1 - Beyond Engineering Simulation Technology

Empowering Clients with Simple Solutions Today to Address the Complex Challenges of Tomorrow
PETRO-SIM 7.0 is now available. You can find information here
For updated information concerning Microsoft Excel support see
Petro-SIM 6.1 service pack 3 has been released. The list of bug fixes can be found here.
Petro-SIM 6.1 expands on the major themes delivered in Petro-SIM 6.0 with a unique focus on extending the Petro-SIM platform to support better integration of 3rd party technology and IP.
A summary of the Major Themes follows below.
- Custom reaction solver with improvements around extension unit operations.
Plug flow reactions can be defined in an XML text file and solved by an extension using a custom reaction solver. Additionally, extension unit operations now appear in the ribbon bar and main palettes and can define their own palette icon. Knowledge base XML can also be provided for an extension unit operation, allowing them to more readily participate in operations related to reporting, optimisers, key performance indicators, and so on. Participation with the calibration environment is now also possible. Improvements related to undo, XML store and recall, and so have also been made.
- Petro-SIM OPC DA Server support.
OPC is an industry standard that allows information (such as process values and set points), to be shared. Petro-SIM now offers OPC standard DA (Data Access) server functionality, through the process data tables. Additionally, process data tables can now also be populated or updated by reading in a text file.
- PI historian connection supports Windows authentication.
The PI historian connection in Petro-SIM now offers three interface choices: PI SDK (Software Development Kit), PI AF (Asset Framework), and the legacy PI API. Both the SDK and AF interfaces allow PI connections to be made using Windows authentication. Old cases will default to PI API, and new connections default to PI SDK since it is generally available to most PI users. PI AF offers faster data retrieval, but does require an extra license (PI System Access) from OSIsoft.
- Petro-SIM PureWeb.
You can now use Petro-SIM in a browser via PureWeb Technology.
- Unit operation plug-in.
Separator functionality can now be extended via plug ins that can be developed in a similar manner to Extension unit operations. These allow sizing calculations to be added on top of vessels for example.
- Petro-SIM Explorer improvements.
Various performance and usability improvements around case display and selection, as well as report generation.
- Compressor surge controller fixes
The steady state surge controller now supports any topology, and solves more reliably.
- Improve AROM-SIM Autotune.
This model is now much more useable thanks to easier and quicker calibration.
- Speed up HXX-SIM execution.
Improvements of four to twenty times in execution speed for the toughest cases. This is especially beneficial for LP vector generation, refinery-wide models and simulations with optimization, where repeated solutions of HCR-SIM, DHTR-SIM and VGOHTR were bogging down performance.
- Critical bug around H2 balance in HXX-SIM.
Certain combinations of Reactor Configuration and Make-Up Hydrogen Location options were resulting in internal imbalance of hydrogen within the model. Correcting the code also resolved several outstanding bugs concerning internal HPS flash calculations and once-thru H2 mode.
- FCC Lift Gas/C4Recycles.
The wizard now automatically sets up Lift Gas and C4 Recycle.
