Migration to SLM system

Before You Start

Note: Installing Multiflash requires administrator rights

Your access to KBC software is controlled by the terms of a license agreement with KBC. These access rights are embodied in a license file that defines valid features, dates and number of users. The access rights could be granted to an individual machine ("Standalone" licensing) or to multiple concurrent users at a location ("Network" licensing). Make sure you know how Multiflash is licensed for your use before starting the installation.

  • If you are using Standalone licensing, make sure you have the license file and any security key to hand
  • If you are using Network licensing, make sure you know the name of your license server for KBC software products.

Consult your local administrators if you are in any doubt.

Migration to SLM licensing system

Until the release of Multiflash 6, Multiflash licenses were controlled either through a Sentinel USB dongle or through the RLM software licensing system (either network or standalone). Both systems needed the set up of an environmental variable INFOCHEM_LICENSE in order to allow Multiflash to point to the right licensing management. In order to proceed with the installation of the new SLM licensing system, shipped with Multiflash 6, such a configuration needs to be changed.

Please note: the best way to migrate to the new SLM systems from existing Multiflash 4.X installations, is to proceed with the installation of Multiflash 6 as explained here. The installation will take care of cleaning up the environmental variables set for RLM and create the necessary environment for SLM to work correctly. However, if this is impossible, please follow the manual procedure explained below.
Please note that, depending on the subversion of Multiflash 4 installed, it might be necessary, and it's always advisable, to download the latest build of the same version available from our Download site.

In order to proceed to the migration of an existing installation of Multiflash 4.X, currently using, either an RLM Infochem network or standalone license, or an INFOCHEM USB dongle, the INFOCHEM_LICENSE environmental variable needs be deleted. To proceed with this, on Windows 7 or VISTA, please

  1. Go to “Control Panel/System/Advanced System” and click on “Settings/Environmental variables”. Look for the INFOCHEM_LICENSE environmental variable and remove it from both the user variables and system variables.
  2. Now launch the KBC license tester from the start menu (Start>All Programs>KBC>KBC License Tester)
    • If this is not yet installed, proceed with the installation of the “KBC license utilities” from the Multiflash 6 installer menu
    • If it is installed, go to the next step
  3. Click on the “Reset” button;
  4. Check that the variable Using KBCLicServers is set to the right server name;
    • If it is, reinstall your file to the server by clicking on the install license file and follow the prompt;
    • If not then you will have to look for KBCLicServers.kbclic. It is a text file that directs KBC software to the license location. For Windows 7 64 bits this is normally "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\KBC". The last line of the file should be the name of the license server. The contents of a KBCLicServers.kbclic file used to direct the system to a license server named MyServer are shown below;
      #this file contains KBC license server name(s), if there is more than
      #one server, please use colon(:) as separator, eg server: server
      #kbc software can take up to 10 license servers here.
      #the server name(s) in this file has to be the last line of this file.
      MyServer
  5. Once this is done, reinstall your file to the server by clicking on the “install license file” and follow the prompt.
  6. Try to launch the Multiflash installation package again;
