New in Version 3.3

Petro-SIM 3.3 contains these new features:

Petro-SIM

  • Dynamics mode functionality is now offered. This new functionality involves an additional license - please contact software@kbcat.com for more details.
  • New operations have been added for dynamics mode.
* Boolean Gate Operations. NOT, AND, OR, XOR, OffDelay, OnDelay, Latch, CountUp and CountDown.
* Controller Operations. PID, MPC, Split Range and Ratio Controllers.
* Cause and Effect Matrix. This operation does function in steady state mode, but it is mainly intended for dynamics mode
* Fired Heater. A new fired heater that supports dynamics mode operation.
  • New supporting functionality for dynamics mode operation.
* A dynamics assistant is available to help setup and troubleshoot dynamics mode operation.
* Fluid package phase sorting rules can be optionally defined by the user. Primarily intended for dynamics mode, this functionality also works in steady-state.
* Improvements to the simulation case reader when reading in dynamic mode cases generated from other simulation packages. Ability to read in a .dump file generated from the alternate simulators. Dump files can be generated using this script.
* PFD now shows stream nozzle inlet elevations when user presses Shift-I and nozzle outlet elevations when user presses Shift-O.
  • A welcome screen is displayed when Petro-SIM starts. It shows a live web page, depending on the build you are using, containing relevant information and notices about updates. It also contains buttons to easily open recently opened cases. The Welcome page can be changed in the preferences file (under Simulation, Display).
  • Petro-SIM can check for updates and download patches. This is available under the Help menu.
  • Amine thermodynamics can now be simulated via AMSIM from DBR-Technology Centre, Schlumberger Canada. This new functionality involves an additional license - please contact software@kbcat.com for more details.
  • A toolbar button for easy opening of sample cases has been added.
  • The file open dialog box can open multiple cases at a time.
  • Added a mode to grab hold of the PFD and drag it around.
  • Added an option that quickly sets the PFD colour scheme to something more appropriate for printing to the Preferences - Resources - Colours page.
  • Heat exchangers have been improved to be able to calculate fouling factors explicitly.
  • FCC Reactors support recycling of stripped catalyst
  • Translations for menus and views added with native support for Russian and Simplified Chinese
