Multiflash Overview

Release Note

About Multiflash 7.3

With the release of Multiflash 7.3 we impress a definite acceleration to the development activities aimed at consolidating the position of Multiflash as the standard PVT package across multiple disciplines. As the industry evolves towards more sustainable practices and net zero as well as deeper and more automation, through the adoption of integrated digital solutions, with Multiflash 7.3 we are consolidating Multiflash as the most accurate and integrable PVT package across the oil and gas, industry, chemicals and petrochemicals industry.
The release of version 7.3 follows several parallel threads. We continue in the development of the interfaces to Multiflash, releasing the the new Python interface, that allows connecting to the low level API through Python, and with the deployment of the first version of the Restful API, that allows to connect and run Multiflash calculations through the cloud.
In parallel, with Multiflash 7.3 we continue with the extensions to reservoir and subsurface, adding the possiblity to automatically read and import fluids that were characterised and tuned with Winprop by CMG, and adding the automatic import of PVT lab data in the ProdML standard.
As far as models and modelling tools are concerned, with Multiflash 7.3 we include the release of the pre-commercial version of ThermoBuilder which allows to easily regress VLE (vapour-liquid-equilibrium), LLE (liquid-liquid-equilibrium) and other physical properties lab data, to tune pure component's parameters and BIPs (binary interaction parameters). This can be used either to improve the accuracy of predictions of equations of state and transport properties models, or to develop new models from proprietary components and mixtures. Furthermore, with 7.3 we expand Multiflash' modelling capabilities, adding the new GERG variant for LNG applications EoS-LNG and new extensions of the EoS-CG for CCS applications.
Further improvements contained in Multiflashs 7.3 include retuning of the BIPs of CO2 and Hydrogen with several components (e.g., H2, CO, N2 etc.) and other usability improvements such as the physical properties table, allowing to run flash calculations within a Pressure-Temperature grid and calculate the physical properties.

Summary of main themes

  • Model Real Fluids - With its unique range of accurate and consistent thermodynamic and physical properties models, Multiflash allows predicting with great accuracy, the phase behaviour and transport properties of complex and highly non-ideal fluid mixtures, exhibiting the coexistence of several liquid, solid and gas phases for applications in upstream oil and gas production and transport (reservoir fluids, oils, condensates, natural gases, CO2, steam, high water cuts, alcohols, glycols etc.), petrochemicals (polymer and co-polymer blends), chemicals (acids, refrigerants) etc.
  • Maximise Production - With its highly reliable and advanced models for gas hydrates and hydrates inhibition, wax, asphaltene, solid scales and mercury, Multiflash is the standard PVT and physical properties package in flow assurance. Multiflash allows modelling truly multi-phase systems, exhibiting the coexistence of several fluid and solid phases, providing an integrated and reliable solution for production optimisation and to forecast and handle potential flow assurance or equipment availability issues.
  • Optimise Work Processes - Already embedded in leading flow assurance, production and process engineering software tools and with its advanced connectivity, Multiflash allows drastic increases of the effectiveness and efficiency of the engineering process, eliminating potential sources or errors due to the use of inconsistent fluid properties throughout the various steps of design and project execution. Multiflash provides engineers with a fully integrated workflow to accurately evaluate the physical and transport properties of reservoir fluids, perform point checks to avoid potential issues, rapidly assess options and compare the effect of design strategies and engineering solutions.
