KBC Security and Infochem Multiflash
Infochem Multiflash supports a number of different licensing schemes that are summarised here. You may find this information useful if you are planning a Multiflash deployment.
There are four ways in which the package can be licensed:
- Using KBC Security - Multiflash from version 4.2 (February 2013) onwards can link into the KBC software security system that utilises the Safenet RMS License Manager technology. This will be the default option where you license Multiflash as part of Petro-SIM Production, allowing Multiflash licenses to operate on a network or standalone basis with commuting facilities for network users.
- Using Reprise License Manager (RLM) security - This is the default option for all copies of Multiflash licensed direct from Infochem. It is a network license model offering similar features to Safenet RMS License Manager.
- Using Sentinel security keys - this option is available for standalone users, requiring you to have a security key supplied by Infochem on your machine.
- Using reseller mechanism - some Multiflash resellers implement their own security and licensing mechanism around the Multiflash software
If you are an existing user of Multiflash using version 4.1 or earlier and you license Petro-SIM Production then you should probably maintain your current licensing scheme. If you are a new user of Multiflash and you license Petro-SIM Production then we recommend you use the KBC Security method for Multiflash as well as Petro-SIM. Please talk to your KBC or Infochem representative if in any doubt.
How Multiflash decides which system is in use
Multiflash uses the following rules to decide which system is in use:
- If the INFOCHEM_LICENSE environment variable exists and is in use then it will get licenses from the Reprise License Manager identified in the variable
- If Multiflash 4.2 or higher and INFOCHEM_LICENSE is not set then it will look for licenses from the KBC security system
- If no RLM license or KBC license found it will look for a Sentinel dongle.
These rules mean that you cannot have Multiflash 4.2 using KBC security and an earlier version such as Multiflash 4.1 using Reprise security on the same machine: both must use Reprise security for the system to function properly.
